Dr. Carry's Biography
Dr. Diana Dumetz Carry has dedicated over 25 years to serving students and teachers as a teacher, curriculum coach, principal, as well as senior district administrator in large, urban school districts.
She holds a doctorate degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Loyola University of Chicago, a Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision from Indiana University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from Northern Illinois University. Among her many accomplishments is the successful implementation of school improvement programs across the country.
Prior to founding Thinking Core™, Dr. Carry was a National Executive Consultant of School Improvement, and a former Chief Academic Officer (CAO) in Clayton County, Georgia. While CAO, she helped lead the school district to regain state accreditation previously withdrawn by the state prior to her arrival. Her leadership brought forth a number of educational innovations, some of which gained special attention as promising from the Office of the Secretary for the U.S. Department of Education.
Her ongoing support for communities of practice includes nationally recognized expertise in literacy, state standards implementation, and differentiated instruction. Her work brings her to schools and classrooms across the country where she shares proven, practical models and inclusive strategies that engage all learners in close reading and writing for the 21st century, critical thinking, communication, creativity, and collaboration.
In addition to her being the author of a widely used writing methodology called Writing Destinations®, which strengthens student writing and vocabulary skills, she has developed Common Core Standards-Based Teaching and Learning resources with supporting curriculum tools to improve access to the rigorous demands of the English Language Arts standards.
Dr. Carry believes improvement is not a random act and that student achievement must not be left to chance – topics she has addressed as a presenter at many state and national conferences.
